How do I sign up?
Show up between 6:00 and 6:20.
Ask the doorman when you get there.
Don’t be late.
Can I win anything?
Money’s given away to the first and second place performers.
People who place in the top four receive points on the scoreboards for the annual invitational slam.
What if my poem is shorter below the time limit?
It is okay to have poems that are shorter then each of the time lengths (such as reading a 30 second poem in the 1 min round or reading a 3 min poem in the 4 min round); however, poems should not go over time. This keeps the event from running long.
What if I don’t have four poems?
Come and watch, get inspired, come back with four poems.
Or for the truly bold (and this has worked before) sign up with one poem and write more during the rounds!!!
Why this format instead of “Regular” poetry slam format?
In late September we will hold a SC Invitational Indie Finals Slam (all top scoring poets from our weekly slams will receive invites). The winner of this event will represent our humble beach town at the National Indie World Poetry Slam (IWPS).
Unlike most poetry slam events, to compete at IWPS you need poems of varying lengths.
The SC slam is designed not only to do something new and fresh in the poetry slam world, but also to prepare you.
